We serve the city of New Martinsville and the County of Wetzel only.
The Wetzel County Animal Shelter has been around for approx 17yrs although it has gone through significant changes in the last 5yrs. Our shelter has 10 cat cages and 11 Outside Kennels for dogs. Please understand that we are the county shelter and operate as County Budget and State Code regulate. Unfortunately, this limits the number of animals we can take in and the amount of time they have at the shelter. Euthanasia is sometimes the result.
Come Meet our Pets:
We also have an isolation room for smaller animals. Because of Restricted space, we cannot take all owned animals; however we do run a waiting list for owned dogs. We also run a waiting list for cats. Cats are not routinely euthanized at the shelter so our list can and does get lengthy at times. Most people like the idea of cats not getting put to sleep.
Our Adoption Process:
To adopt, you need to fill out the application and get it to us ASAP. We then check your references to make sure the right home and the right family is matched and contact you. When you adopt, you must then sign a contract waiving the shelter of liability and agreeing to humanely care for the pet the rest of it's life (conditions are defined.) and to have it altered by a set date if the animal is not already altered. If you have any questions about the pet, you can E mail or call us and we will respond promptly. We also have a petfinder site @ www.wetzelpets.petfinder.com If you do not find the pet you are looking for, you can keep your application on file with a description of what you are looking for, and we will contact you when and if that animal becomes available. Fees as follows. Altered cats $10 plus medical costs incurred by shelter. Altered dogs $20 plus medical costs incurred by shelter. #3 Our mission is short and sweet. We provide a safe humane atmosphere for the unwanted and homeless dogs and cats of the community and try to place them in loving "forever" homes.
Dog adoption and cat
adoption saves lives. Adopt
a dog or adopt a cat and you'll
have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting
a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats
for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs
and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of
dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed
is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten
breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat
or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt
a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane
society or pet rescue group.
