The shelter accepts dogs and cats from Frederick County only. You must live in Winchester, Frederick, Shenandoah, or Clarke County to adopt an animal that is not already spayed or neutered.

About Our Shelter:

The Frederick County Esther L. Boyd Animal Shelter is a local government shelter. The shelter accepts the homeless and unwanted animals of Frederick County, Virginia. The current shelter was build in 2007. Shelter services include: Adoptions, lost/found animal service, humane trap rental, rabies clinic, animal surender for Frederick County residents, animal care advice and referral and humane education.

Come Meet our Pets:

Citizens can visit the shelter Monday - Friday from 10-4, except Wednesday 10-6 and Saturday 11-3. The shelter is closed on Sunday and all holidays.

The Shelter is located at 161 Fort Collier Road, Winchester, VA next to the Northwestern Regional Detention Center.

Our Adoption Process:

You must be a resident of Winchester, Frederick, Warren, Clarke or Shenandoah Counties in Virgia to adopt an animal that is not already neutered. This is a Virginia State Law. Residents of other jurisdictions may adopt animals that are currently neutered and at the shelter.

Dog adoption fee = $100.00
($30 adoption fee, $70 neuter deposit)

Cat adoption fee = $80.00
($30 adoption fee, $50.00 neuter
deposit)

All neutered animals = $30.00 no deposit required.

Neuter deposit is deducted from your surgery bill at the time of neutering.

Special restrictions may apply to certain animals.

All animals must be neutered by Virginia State Law.

All adopters must agree to an sign a contract.
