Wa-Hya's Wolfdog & Special Breed Rescue

We are not a shelter, but a private rescue facility. We do not take aggressive dogs, period. Either human aggressive, cat aggressive or dog aggresive. The only breeds we take as an owner turn-in is a Newfoundland, Newf-mix, or German Wirehaired Pointer. Owner turn-in's are by appointment only. Please call ahead.

We are just 2 people who really try and help as many as we can. We are not huge, but do what we are able. We pull 1-2 at a time when we have room. We mainly have large breed dogs. Some have been in abusive situations including back yard breeders/puppy mills. Some are owner turn-in's who need just as much help or they would end up in the shelter. Most of these dogs were on their last hour of life.

We do adopt out of state but most of our animals should not or cannot fly, so please take that into consideration when you apply.

We have set up a "Sponsorship Program". We feel like there are so many people out there who want to help but do not have the time. We have developed this program to help those people. The dogs we save from the shelters need places to stay, vet treatment, training, and of course food and toys, besides lots of love. There are never enough charitable contributions to cover these costs. The Sponsorship Program allows individuals to select a dog from "Our Adoptable Pet List" and actually help that dog from the beginning stage of being bailed from the shelter to placing the dog into a new loving home. We will send photos and progress reports for the dogs you select to Sponsor. The Sponsors will be making a difference in a dogs life, without having to sacrifice their time. We welcome you to become involved!!

******We are looking for groomers to donate time to get some of these dogs back into shape. If you can help with any grooming, please contact us.

We can always use donations of large crates, towels, and blankets. **Kuranda beds are needed right now.

Please save a life, and adopt a rescue, don't buy from a Petshop supporting the Puppy Mills. Yes, ALL Petshops get their puppies from Puppymills or Back Yard Breeders who do not do health tests and sell them too young.

We are proud to sponsor a program that encourages senior citizens to adopt senior pets. Seniors for Seniors enables people 60 years and older to adopt a dog that is 5 years or older from us for a reduced adoption fee. I saw this program up in Northern Nevada and wanted to try something like that here. This is on a case by case basis and adopters will have to still fill out our adoption application and pass a homecheck.

Rescue FAQs

Pahrump and Las Vegas mainly. Will adopt out to other U.S. States and take in from other states as well.

Additional adoption info

We do require a homecheck, application and contract to adopt from us as well as a $250 adoption fee for purebreds and $200 for all mixed $150 fee for puppies too young for spay/neuter. We require fully enclosed 6 foot fences for almost all of our rescues (we have had the occasional dog who is fine in 4 or 5 foot fences) as well as not being a guard dog nor an outside only dog. With young puppies we do a foster contract until the puppy is spayed/neutered and then we will do an adoption of that dog to their foster if they are interested.

I thank each and every person who has adopted from us to keep our rescue going. You all are the ones who save future lives as well as the ones you adopt. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
