Arizona Basset Hound Rescue
About Our Rescue Group
As a charitable animal welfare organization, Arizona Basset Hound Rescue, Inc. provides veterinary care, food, support, and shelter to basset hounds needing assistance in Arizona. We treat these animals as our own, with the utmost care and respect and make decisions based on compassion for the quality of life these bassets will enjoy while in our care. We provide necessary support throughout the lifetime of the dogs and place the dogs in foster and permanent homes using the dogs' personalities, behaviors, and special needs as a guide. We work in cooperation with local and state shelters to reduce euthanasia of basset hounds and mixed breeds.

Through our network of volunteers, we are able to provide adoptions to the entire state. Rescue means finding new homes for homeless dogs. Rescued bassets are from pounds/shelters, strays whose owners cannot be found, and those given up directly by owners who no longer want them for various reasons. Volunteers pick up the dogs, take them to the vet as needed for spaying, neutering, or any other necessary care, serve as foster homes, and help in locating permanent homes for the dogs. The dogs are fostered in private homes across the state for at least two weeks in order for the rescue to discover any problems the dogs might have, and to get an understanding of the dogs' personalities.

Come Meet our Pets
AZBHR offers many ways to meet the Basset Houndss in our care. We provide a Haloween event in October, we attend the St. Patricks Day parade in Phoenix. There is always a great picnic at Margaret T Hance Park. Throughout the year there are "Dog Park Days," where we meet for fun.
Our Adoption Process
The AZBHR adoption process is quite straight forward. Simply go oon line and complete an on line application. Next have a home visit complteted. The adoption fees range from $100 to $200 dependent upon the age and health of the adoption dog.

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
