Friends of Sacramento City Shelter Animals
About Our Rescue Group
We are a small rescue group that rescues from the City of Sacramento Animal Shelter. This shelter is in a large metropolitan area and is a high kill shelter. At the time we formed our group, very little effort was being made to get the animals adopted. It was mainly a holding facility where the animals were euthanized once the legal hold period was over. The facility has improved greatly after a lot of negative publicity and an audit by the American Humane Society. However, the euthanasia rate is still much higher than we would like. We maintain a website to make the animals more visible and rescue as many as we can to give them more time.
Come Meet our Pets
Our dogs and cats are in foster care or being kenneled and can be viewed on our website - www.saccityshelter.com. We have adoption events for cats only at Pets To Go, 9098 Laguna Main St., Suite 5, Elk Grove on the first and third Sundays from 12 PM to 2PM. Our dogs are kenneled in Elk Grove and we have animals in foster homes throughout the region. They can be seen by appointment - send an e-mail or call if you would like to meet an animal.
Our Adoption Process
We ask that an adoption application be filled out so that we can choose the best possible pet for the client. We also have the adopter fill out a contract when the adoption takes place. We do make a home visit. The fee is $75 for a cat and includes spay or neuter, testing for FIV and FeLV, FVRCP and Rabies vaccinations, and a microchip. The fee for a dog is $85 to $200 and includes spay/neuter, DHPP and Rabies vaccinations. Most dogs are microchipped.
Dog adoption and cat
adoption saves lives. Adopt
a dog or adopt a cat and you'll
have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting
a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats
for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs
and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of
dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed
is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten
breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat
or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt
a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane
society or pet rescue group.
