The Old Dog House, Inc.'s adoption process

Additional adoption info

Once you have found a dog you would like to meet, please e-mail us and we will contact you to arrange an introduction. The Old Dog House requires that an application be on file before the actual meeting. During the application process, we are simply verifying information such as: vet history on current and previous pets and home ownership/landlord approval. The introduction will occur at your home so that any children and resident pets can meet the prospective new member of the family.

All dogs at time of adoption will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations - including Rabies, heartworm tested with a negative result*, on heartworm and flea preventatives, and licensed with the city of Jacksonville. The adoption fee is $125.00.
*The Old Dog House will consider adopting out dogs that are currently undergoing medical treatment for heartworm disease before the treatment is complete on a case-by-case basis. Medical conditions and current courses of treatment will be disclosed on the dog's biographical information page.

About The Old Dog House, Inc.

The Old Dog House is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to giving older and senior dogs a second, sometimes third, chance at a new life. At so many shelters, the age of a dog determines its chances of reaching the adoption floor to find a new forever home. As a result, many wonderful dogs are denied the ability to live out their lives in dignity, surrounded by love. The Old Dog House aims to enlighten the public to the joys of owning an older or senior dog through educational programs and to place rescued dogs into true forever homes through adoption programs. The dogs that come into the care of The Old Dog House will remain in our care until adopted. We rely solely on donations from the public to support our organization. 100% of donations received are used for the care and rehabilitation of the dogs at The Old Dog House. Every penny makes a difference and is greatly appreciated!

The Old Dog House is looking for foster families! Do you have room in you home for a kind, old soul that is waiting to find a new family? Older and senior dogs are usually well past the destructive, high-energy phase and just want loving, human companionship. You supply the home filled with TLC and The Old Dog House supplies the rest! Please contact us for more information on how to make a positive difference in an older or senior dog's life!

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Jacksonville, FL.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
