Santa Barbara County

About Our Shelter:

Our mission is to assist in creating a no-kill world by rescuing and finding lifelong homes for adoptable animals. Although we are located in Santa Barbara County, we offer support and assistance to rescue organizations and animals without regard for geographic boundaries.

Come Meet our Pets:

Please stop by the VIVA Pet Adoption Center, 133 North D St., on Saturday from 10-4, or call us at 735-6741 to arrange an appointment.

Our Adoption Process:

1) All cats and dogs, kittens and puppies adopted from VIVA are already spayed or neutered. Our $50 adoption fee offsets our costs.

2) No cat or kitten adopted from VIVA may be declawed. Declawing is a drastic procedure (like "trimming" your fingers off at the knuckle) which negatively alters the personality of the cat for life, as well as presenting certain dangers for surviving.

3) Adoptions are reversible. Please do not submit VIVA cats or dogs to kill shelters.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a cat or kitten versus getting cats for sale or kittens for sale from a cat breeder? When someone is breeding kittens, they are creating new cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of cat or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a cat for sale from a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a cat or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
