About Save A Mexican Mutt D/FW
Save A Mexican Mutt, or SAMM, was started in 2003 by Kelly and Jim Karger after they witnessed the needless suffering of homeless and neglected dogs on the streets of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Then they found out that dogs and cats are euthanized by electrocution and drowning in nearly all parts of Mexico.
Since its inception, over 500 dogs have been transported to their forever homes in the United States, Canada and some have been adopted locally.
We work in conjunction with highly qualified and ethical "no-kill" rescue organizations and shelters in Texas, New Mexico and do direct adoptions.
Prior to transport, all dogs are spayed or neutered, temperament tested, tested for heartworm, are current on their vaccinations, and arrive with a health certificate dated within three days of crossing the Mexico/U.S. border.
SAMM has received approval from the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your donations are U.S. tax deductible and are necessary to expand our efforts to help more dogs find their forever homes. Donations can be made at our website: www.saveamexicanmutt.org.
And, SAMM is always grateful for volunteers willing to provide transportation to the United States and Canada for adopted dogs and puppies. When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
