Rat Terrier Rescue Canada

RTRC is a non-profit, volunteer organization that rescues and fosters Rat terriers in private homes. Rat terriers are small, lively, loyal dogs with short coats. They are sturdy terriers that are genetically made up of a mix of breeds including the now extinct white terrier, whippet and Manchester terrier. They were predominantly used for small animal hunting including rats and hence they obtained their name. The dogs come into rescue from a variety of sources including owner surrenders, puppy mills and shelters. They are placed in foster homes for assessment, vetting and to get them ready for their adoptive families. All rat terriers coming into rescue are spay/neutered, vaccinated and tested for heartworm.

Additional adoption info

Once an application for adoption has been received by RTRC, the foster family will be notified and you will receive an e-mail or phone call from them. Your references will be checked and if a vet is already being used, then they will be contacted as a references as well. Lastly, a home visit will be scheduled and carried out. This process is all completed by volunteers and it can be expected that it might take several weeks. You are encouraged to stay in touch with the foster family and take this opportunity to get to know the dog you have applied for.
