About Our Shelter
AFA is the oldest no-kill shelter in Westmoreland County and was founded in 1983. We are an all volunteer board and our shelter manager has 25+ years of experience in the animal field.
The current shelter is new (about 3 yrs.old) and is very, very nice (come and visit us)! We offer buy a brick campaign, always are in need of monetary donations and right now are looking for some kind person to donate a concession trailer! Thank you for your continued support! We hold many fundraisers throughout the year - check our websit for details.

We do not adopt pets off-site, but please do come and visit our shelter - you'll be pleasantly surprised at the beautiful conditions our animals are in :)
Our Adoption Process
Required to complete an adoption contract. If renting, we need permission from the landlord for a pet to be permitted.
We receive over 100 calls per day, so if your call is not returned immediately, it will be returned asap. (thanks for your patience)

Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
