About Our Rescue Group:

Blue Dog Rescue is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to end the needless killing of homeless dogs. In 2006, Austin killed over 12,000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens at one area animal shelter alone. Many of them were healthy, well-behaved animals who could have made someone a wonderful pet. They were killed because there wasn't enough room to keep them until homes could be found for them.

Blue Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, funded by donations, fundraisers, and adoption fees, that works to find permanent, loving homes for homeless dogs in the Central Texas area. All donations are Federal Tax deductible.

Most Blue Dogs have come from Central Texas animal shelters. Blue Dog Rescue takes only those animals who are in danger of being euthanized. In order to give these dogs a chance, we must limit the number of dogs we take from private homes because their owners no longer have time for them, are moving, etc. Blue Dog Rescue will accept animals from the public only as a last resort IF space is available in an appropriate foster home.

Our Adoption Process:

Our adoption fee is $165... this pays for spay/neuter, vaccinations, vet exam, and any other medical costs that we have incurred while the foster dogs/puppies are in our care. Prospective adopters fill out an online adoption form and we make arrangements for them to meet the dog/puppy or they can visit at our scheduled adoption events. A home visit is the final step before we finalize the adoption with an agreement!

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
