Pets at Our Shelter:

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

We serve primarily Mecklenburg County, VA, but routinely take in animals from other surrounding counties in Southern VA and Northern NC.

About Our Shelter:

We are a non-profit private animal shelter, founded in 2002. We operate solely on donations, and with mostly volunteer staff, but have so many animals, we do have to pay 1 full time employee and 3 part time staffers. We typically take in about 800-1,000 animals per year. We are a no-kill shelter. Most of our animals reside at our shelter but many are also in foster care. We live in a rural area with a County Pound that will only pick up dogs, no cats, and who euthanize fairly quickly due to shortage of space, and until us, we had no shelters in the area. Problems common for this area area are people not spaying or neutering animals, lost , abandoned and/or unaltered hunting dogs, abandoned, unaltered cats and ferral cat colonies. We also have many people who relinquish pets because of hard economic times.

Come Meet our Pets:

We are located at 7577 Hwy. 58, Clarksville, VA 23927, next to Ace Hardware. Our phone number is 434 374-8076, email is, and web site is We are open seven days a week from 10am-4pm.

Our Adoption Process:

We ask for a $75.00 donation for a dog and a $40 donaion for a cat. If sexually mature, the animal will be altered and have it's rabies shot , and other typical vaccinations appropraie for it's age, before the adoption occurs. Cats are tested for feline leukemia and FIV, and dogs are tested for heartworms and most are tested for intestinal worms, as well. If puppies or kittens are sexually immature, the adopter must sign paperwork that the animal will be altered by age 6 months and that the adopter will either bring them back to us and we will arange it to get it done, or show proof that you have gotten it done, or being subject to a fine and court action.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
