Our group started in 2006 when our local animal shelter was closed. A few people seen that there was a need for a group like us so a few people got together and that is how we began. We take in owner surrendered, abandon, unwanted, and dumped dogs and cats. We also work very closely with our new animal shelter by taking those that have ran out of time and would be put to sleep if it were not for us.

Additional adoption info

All of our pets are spayed or neutered, up to date with all of their shots that are required by their age. Those pets that are 6 months or older are all heart wormed checked and started on preventive meds. All of our pets are kept at foster homes and they are treated like one of our own. minus the abuse and neglect that some animals endure. Most foster have children, other animals, such as cats, ducks, cows, chickens and so on. This makes for a rounded pet an one that we can adopt out with out worry that they may not get along with other animals. We ask for a donation of $65.00 per adoption, this way we can recoup some of the funds to put towards other pets that need our help. We require that if the adoption does not work out that you let us know and bring the pet back to us.

About Vernon County People for Pets, Inc.

Vernon County People for Pets Inc. Is made up of a small group of people who love animals. We are a non for profit organization and all our funds are donated or raise through fund raisers, dog washes and flea dips. We also opened our own re sell it shop, known as Fido's Flea Market located at 325 N. Cypress here in Nevada, Missouri. Everything has been donated by the residents in the area. We take what is donated and wash it, fix it and then resell it. It has been a little slow going because we are off the beaten path, but traffic is picking up. And soon we will have a big group of loyal customers. Some that come shopping may not buy a thing but they always leave something. Great response from those that come to visit. We do this because pets do not have a voice and we are here to sing their praises and see to it that they all find good forever loving homes. And we get very excited when they do.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
