Formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina by Sherri Arias and Ellen Head. We are an unpaid ALL VOLUNTEER group. We serve the greater New Orleans area actively promoting Spay/Neuter and quality lifetime homes for All Animals. We FIGHT the mistreatment , cruelty, neglect and needless euthanasia in our local shelters or on the streets with EDUCATION + COMMUNITY OUTREACH. We maintain good working relationships with the LA Humane Society,The Jefferson SPCA, SPAYMART and all other like minded Rescue Groups, NO-KILL Shelters and Individuals.

Additional adoption info

We require an application, veterinary reference and a home visit prior to you taking your new best friend home. One of us will follow the Lucky Pets progress after you'all have had a chance to settle in and get used to one another. Any questions, concerns...we're a phone call away. We also require you to sign a contract promising excellent care, that you will never turn your new pet over to anyone else; ONLY return him to us, NEVER Declaw any Cat, among other things or leave a Dog chained outside for any long periods in just any kinda weather. It's really quite simple. All we're really looking for are Forever Homes for these wonderful yet Needy Animals. Any and all adoption "fee's" or "donations" are used for the feeding, care, shelter and medical needs of the many other animals we help. We also help indigent, underserved member's of the community keep their pets fed and healthy so they don't end up in a kill shelter. RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE is an ALL VOLUNTEER non-profit; all funds raised go to the Animals. We supply food, shelter and medical; they supply the love.

About River Region Animal Rescue

We are Sherri Arias, Ellen Head and a few other volunteers. We have been actively involved in Rescue, Adoptions, TNR, Feral Cat Colony Care, Community Outreach and Education as a group since H. KATRINA.We fight ABUSE and NEGLECT at every turn - we don't look the other way. We promote SPAY and NEUTER for all Animals
in the hopes of one day having a No-Kill protocol in all of the New Orleans area,s animal shelters. We fight to end Backyard and "High-end" Breeders, Puppymills and the like while promoting Adoption from our local Shelters. Our community outreach efforts involve reaching people, usually indigent people in underserved areas with information on how to treat, train, and take care of their pets. We help with food, vet. visits, medicine and of course spay/neuter. We believe that the killing, abuse and overpopulation of animals ends with education. RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE is an ALL VOLUNTEER non-profit. We are Incorporated with LA as a non-profit in good standing. Our 501c3 status is pending. We're very excited about this since we'll be able to help more animals and their owners. For the past 71/2 years we've been operating largely out of pocket despite a few donations and fundraising efforts. We're small fish in a big sea of need and we're deeply committed to improving the lives of all animals everywhere. Most of our community outreach work has found us in the LINCON MANOR neighborhood in Kenner where the Animals need help and understanding the most. We have 10 feral colonies there, we distribute food when we get it so the residents can keep their pets and among other things we have a group of children who formed "ANIMAL CAMP"so they could tag along with us and help. Their enthusiasm and genuine desire to do right instead of wrong by these animals and in their lives can't be measured. These kids have been responsible for several feline, canine, and at least one turtle rescue to date. We're proud to have them with us at Adoption and other Animal Welfare Events where they really shine.RIVER REGION ANIMAL RESCUE has an honest need for Volunteers, Foster Homes and DONATIONS of Cat and Dog Food. We also need DONATIONS of Money for Vet. bills, Heartguard, Advantage, etc. Gift Cards to PETSMART, PETCO, Walmart, etc. Gas and/or $ Cards or Checks will help alot! We do our own Vaccines - except Rabies - and Microchiping too in order to keep costs down but we still need help! - THANK-YOU!

River Region Animal Rescue's adopted pets

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Kenner, LA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
