Mountainview Shih Tzu Rescue's adoption process

Additional adoption info

Anyone wanting to adopt from us must fill out an application, provide references that will be checked, and sign a contract. Our current adoption fees are $350 per dog, puppies under 18 months are $450. Our adoption fees help all dogs we rescue. Typical needs of most of our rescues include daily care such as food, supplies, and grooming, transportation, vaccinations, spay or neuter, and health certificates. Others may need urgent or ongoing medical care and dental work. Adoption fees allow us to rescue and properly take care of them. More information can be found at our website.

About Mountainview Shih Tzu Rescue

We are a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of Shih Tzu who have been abused, neglected, abandoned, unwanted or have owners unable to care for them. We provide them with a loving and safe environment as well as medical care. In addition, we match them with responsible owners who will provide proper love, care, and a forever home. We also seek to promote responsible dog ownership by educating and creating public awareness of the breed and issues such as, but not limited to, dog/owner behavior, spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm preventatives, regular vet care, good nutrition, and regular grooming. Although we focus on the Shih Tzu breed, we care about all dogs and may have the opportunity to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home other companion dogs in need.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
