Pets at Our Shelter:

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

We serve Jasper County, Smith County, and Jones County

About Our Shelter:

We decided that something had to be done about the huge amount of stray animals in the Jasper County area. We formed a non-profit organization and began taking in dogs and cats. We later got a lawyer to do the paperwork so that we could be a 501c3 tax exempt organization. There are four unpaid volunteers who run the shelter. We pay some young people to come in and clean up. We receive donations from the public and charge a small surrender fee to bring in dogs and cats. We have a small trailer for the office and some pens in back for the dogs and pups. Some of the pens are cemented and some are very large outside pens. We are next door to a vet and use her services regulary. We have college volunteers that come and work with the puppies and dogs each week. We are dedicated to our calling and have been doing this for several years.

Come Meet our Pets:

We go to PetSmart in Hattiesburg, MS every Saturday and usually adopt out 2 or 3 dogs a week. We also have a volunteer who goes to the Petco in Meridian, MS to do adoptions on one Saturday a week.

Our Adoption Process:

We have a form that the adoptive person fills out, the fee is $75.00 for a dog under a year old and $50.00 for older dogs. They are required to have a fenced yard or they agree to keep the animal in the house. They are urged to do regular vet visit and give heartworm prevention once a month.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
