Stray No More's adoption process

Additional adoption info

First of all, we would like to thank you for choosing to come to a rescue to find your new friend. You are certainly our kind of person!

Once you have found a doggie that has the eyes that you have been looking for, send us an application. If they are over six months of age, they are spayed or neutered already but if they are under that age, you will need to sign a contract to have that done. A deposit will be held until you produce a spay or neuter certificate from your vet.

As soon as the application is completed, it can be sent to us by email. We know how excited you are. We are excited, too, so someone will call as soon as is humanly possible to get the process going for you.

Once your application is approved, the speed dating starts. You tell us what you want in a new friend and we try to match up your list with our doggies' lists. We want everyone to be happy for a long, long time.

We have a pretty nice set of going home instructions that should, hopefully, prepare you for your new relationship. They will be sent to you before you pick up your new friend so that you can review them.

All of our doggies have been dewormed, defleaed, given their shots, and vet-checked. All that you have to do is take them home and love them. Nice, huh?

About Stray No More

We are an all-volunteer rescue that has been helping animals for the past sixteen years by giving them food for their little bellies, love for their hearts, in a foster home that is a warm, safe place to hang out until the person that they need comes along to take them home forever.

We have deliberately stayed small because we believe that the relationship between a rescue group and the new home needs to have an intimate feel to it. The adoption process is a special time for everyone. We want to insure that our new homes are prepared for the fifteen year commitment and all of the craziness that goes with adopting a doggie.

We are so grateful to all of the people who choose rescue over puppy mills and pet shops and we want them to know that. Their kindness makes all of this possible. Thank you.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Somerset, PA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
