Morris Safe House's adoption process

Additional adoption info

After meeting and bonding with the dog, an adoption application is completed.
Two major requirements: Monthly preventatives MUST be continued EVERY month year round to prevent heartworms
(caused by mosquito bites) and flea / tick topicals to prevent diseases caused by the parasites. Second requirement: that you continue to spoil the fur baby as much as we already have them spoiled!
Adoption fee $175.00 EVERY dog is current on vaccines, has been tested for heartworms, flea/tick diseases (treated if necessary), have been spay/neutered, and has an ID chip PRIOR to being presented for adoption. Hours of operation 7 days a week 9-4:30.
If you have a dog in the home and looking for a companion, please bring your dog to the Safe House to be sure there are NO issues between the two fur babies. We do not want you to get home and have a problem with either dog.

About Morris Safe House

Morris Safe House is a "NO KILL" facility for dogs! The Safe House is a 501C3, non-profit organization, founded in May, 2008. To insure the health and safety of the dogs, a state of the arc facility was constructed on donated acreage. The facility features a climate controlled interior with 6X8 foot kennels that open through a doggy door into a covered identical outdoor area. All floors are concrete and each little resident has his own bed.
During the first three years over 1300 dogs has been rescued with an adoption rate of 97%. Our adoption rate is high because before any dog is presented for adoption, all measures are taken to give each the best possible chance for a long healthy life in a loving, safe, forever home.
Volunteers are a vital part of our Safe House. Volunteer opportunties are endless because of our hours 7 days a week 9-4:30. Walking dogs or playing with dogs in our fenced play areas offers a nice break from the hetic pace of daily routines. The dogs LOVE new faces to interact with. No group is too small or too large to visit the Safe House.
We are a favorite of youth groups.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
