Paws For Seniors
About Our Rescue Group
To match homeless senior dogs and cats with human senior citizens providing companionship and love to both.

The Problem: For any number of reasons senior dogs/cats are given up by, in many cases, the only family they have ever known.

Our Primary Mission: Is to match homeless senior dogs and cats with human senior citizens providing companionship and love to both. We believe that pet companionship is the key to keeping our aging society young at heart! Although we are establishing a Seniors for Seniors program we are open to adoptions of our Senior pets to anyone that qualifies.

We are planning to work with Senior Citizens to establish a Foster home network. We think this would be a win-win situation for seniors that would love a pet but cannot afford the expense. The foster home provides the love and daily care to a Senior Dog or Cat in need. “Paws For Seniors” provides the food and vet care while looking for a forever home. In some cases they may become “permanent” fosters.
In the future, We will help Senior Citizens that currently have pets keep the bond with their pets by providing food, pet meds and reasonable vet care. We will establish income requirements and qualifications to benefit from this program. This will be contingent on establishing funding.

We will begin to help homeless senior dogs and cats in Fauquier County, VA find homes where they can spend the remaining days of their lives with the best quality of life possible.

We currently have limited resources as we begin operations and establish our network of volunteers and foster homes. Therefore we will be helping a limited number of Senior Dogs and Cats at this time.

Our Adoption Process
Adoption Process
Potential adopters must follow our adoption process begins with an adoption application, an interview, reference check and a home visit. Adoption Applications may be submitted in advance for pre-approval and will be kept on file.
Before completing the adoption application, you should consider the following:

Lifestyle (house, apartment, single, busy schedule, etc.)

Preference of male or female dog or cat

Desired personality and energy level (playfulness, calm, dominant, needy, etc.)

Appropriate age of the pet for your family.

Age of any children you may have. Ordinarily our pets are not suitable for homes with children under 5.
The Process:
1.
Submit an application. Please allow 1 week for your application to be reviewed.
2.
Adoption Applications may be submitted for pre-approval and will be kept on file.
3.
Initial interview by phone or email will be made within one week after receipt of your application.
4.
We will then check references; if approved we will schedule a home visit, the final step in approving your application. All members of your family must be present.
5.
After home inspection and upon approval, an Adoption Contract will be processed, which includes a two week (14 days) trial period. At this time, the adoption fee will be collected and the trial period will begin. The trial period will allow you to decide if the pet is a good match for you and your family.
6.
During the two week trial, if you decide that the pet is not a good match, the pet will be returned to “Paws for Seniors” and the Adoption fee will be refunded.
7.
Adoptions fees: Senior Dogs $120.00 Senior Cats $100.00
A Successful Applicant Must:

Provide a safe, fenced in yard while the “Paws for Seniors” dog is outside supervised by you or a family member.

Agree to keep the “Paws for Seniors” dog on a leash when outside a fenced area and not allow him/her to roam free at any time.

Return the “Paws for Seniors” pet at any time if the owner is unable to keep him/her for any reason or if lifestyle changes make the owner unable to maintain above conditions.

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
