Areas Village of Santa Clara Animal Control serves

Santa Clara new mexico is a small southwestern New Mexico village with about 1800 people. And we have animal control and a shelter that houses the animals we receive. And we're improving and growing and are starting an adoption program, a spay/neuter program and next year a new animal shelter building. We're growing, and with lots of help we hope to be a shelter the village can be proud of.

Additional adoption info

Our adoptable animals are up to date on all vaccinations and will be spayed or neutered before going home. We charge a small adoption fee for the animal to cover vet checks and vaccinations, and then we make an appointment at the vet to have the animal altered. The new pet is dropped off at the vets office by the ACO and the new owner picks them up there. The spay/neuter fee is then paid by the new owner. We haven't been adopting out pets long enough to have a spay/neuter program in place yet and so far this procedure has worked for us. All phone calls/ emails we receive will be returned, but please be patient we have only one person doing this and sometimes there may be a delay of a day.

About Village of Santa Clara Animal Control

The Village of Santa Clara is starting to build a new animal shelter out of an old fire department. We've moved kennels into the building for both dogs and cats., and they are now indoors out of the weather and the heat. We're buying new kennels for their comfort and safety. We're starting a spay neuter fund and are trying to raise money for all these improvements with rummage sales and hopefully soon a new thrift shop. Come see our adoptable animals for your self and maybe take in our village at the same time, a lot of history here.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
