The Nevada Animal Shelter serves the city of Nevada, Missouri in regulating, providing information, and bringing lost pets to new homes, or to existing owners.

About Our Shelter:

The Nevada Animal Shelter is a safe place for lost, abandoned or forgotten pets in the Nevada city area.

It is our mission to provide the best care for each and every animal, including enrichment, and preventative vaccinations until the animal is adopted into a forever home, or otherwise.

Best time to be out at the shelter is after 10:30am in the morning and before 5:30pm in the evening, as cleaning, feeding, and caring for the animals has our staff busy during these times.

Coming from Fort Scott, KS or West 54Hwy:
Turn Right on S. Prewitt.
If you go past this street, turn right into the parking lot of the Woods grocery store, and go west until you come in contact with Prewitt street once again. Then turn left.

The road curves around twice, and changes name, but keep following it out until you hit a long hill.
Go down the long hill, over the rail road tracks and we are the first building on the right, with chain link fence all around.

Coming from Joplin, MO or South 71Hwy:
Take 1st Exit, or Camp Clark Exit, turn Left on the main street, Austin.
Go all the way through town until you see a grocery store on your left named Woods.
Right after this grocery store there is a road called S. Prewitt.
Turn Left here and go south.
Keep following the road out, it curves a couple of times and may change names, but keep following it until you hit a long hill.

Take 4th Exit, or Camp Clark exit.
Turn Right on Austin or the first road you come to off the off ramp.
Go all the way through town until you see a grocery store called Woods on the left.
Turn Left on S. Prewitt street.

Our Adoption Process:

For Dogs or Cats:
To adopt one of our dogs or cats, you must be present at the shelter, fill out a short application and information form, and pay the appropriate adoption fees stated below:

For Dogs:
$10 Adoption fee.
$20 Spay/Neuter deposit.

For Cats:
$5 Adoption fee.
$20 Spay/Neuter deposit.

To redeem the spay/neuter deposit you must provide the animal shelters proper receipt and a form from the vet that states the animal has been spayed/neutered.
You take this paperwork to the Nevada Police Department, and when the city cuts a check like twice a month, they will send you that $20 back in the mail.
