As part of our educational outreach programming, Second Chance Thoroughbreds, Inc. has an established horsemanship program that offers riding education at our facility. We offer year-round horseback riding lessons for children and adults and a summer fun program designed for children who love horses and want to learn more about riding and horse management, with specific emphasis on thoroughbred aftercare. We teach English style riding, jumping and dressage starting from the basics – grooming, tacking and mounting. Our focus is on promoting learning in a fun, safe environment.
Our largest fundraising event is our annual all-thoroughbred show, the Thoroughbred Jubilee Benefit Horse Show. In 2013, our inaugural show had an amazing turnout of 48 registered thoroughbreds over two, fun-filled days! This years show included many Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.) sponsored divisions and classes, covering hunters, jumpers, English pleasure, Western pleasure and three high point awards. Thank you to all who attended our 2014 Thoroughbred Jubilee Benefit Horse Show!
Second Chance Thoroughbreds, Inc. is proud to host biannual low-cost gelding clinics open to all breeds. The Social Club Initiative Gelding Program was designed to help combat over-breeding and backyard breeding in our area and is named after Social Club, the first colt gelded at our facility. Since 2012, we have helped geld 17 colts and stallions and have hosted two successful gelding clinics.
We do have spring and fall open house events, please contact us for more information.
Why should you adopt?
horses can make wonderful pets, and rather than buying a horse for sale or finding a horse breeder, adopting a horse from an animal shelter or rescue organization is the perfect way to add a horse to your family. Keep in mind, there is a lot you will need to know when you provide a home for a horse. You will need to learn what to feed them, how much exercise or attention your horse needs, and many other important things about how to house and care for a horse. There are different types of horses including Andalusian, Appaloosa, Appendix, Arabian, Belgian, Clydesdale, Curly Horse, Donkey/Mule/Burro/Hinny, Draft, Friesian, Gaited, Grade, Gypsy Vanner, Haflinger, Lipizzaner, Miniature, Missouri Foxtrotter, Morgan, Mustang, Norwegian Fjord, Paint/Pinto, Palomino, Paso Fino, Percheron, Peruvian Paso, Pony - Chincoteague, Pony - Connemara, Pony - Dales, Pony - Dartmoor, Pony - Fell, Pony - New Forest, Pony - of America, Pony - Other, Pony - Shetland, Pony - Welsh, Quarterhorse, Rocky Mountain, Saddlebred, Standardbred, Tennessee Walking Horse, Thoroughbred, Trakhener, and Warmblood.
