Rescue FAQs

Northwest Great Dane rescue was established to place loving Great Danes into wonderful caring homes. Dane owners are a special breed of individuals and love the gentle nature of these large animals.

We are individuals that have many combined years of Dane ownership and are strong advocates for the breed. Because our resources are limited, we can't always open the door but we will offer help to those in need in other ways when possible.

Our mission...

At Northwest Great Dane Rescue it is our mission to assist Great Danes that find themselves without a home and family of their own. We will do this by saving one Great Dane at a time and attending to their individual physical, psychological, and behavioral needs. We will commit ourselves to every Great Dane that we have in our program for the rest of its life.

We will only place our Great Danes in stable, loving homes that understand the commitment that a Great Dane is. We will commit to finding a perfect match of Great Dane and owner, and waiting until that match is found to place a dog.

We will be a community resource and advocate for the Great Dane by continuing to educate the public about our breed and its needs. We will help Dane owners who come to us with questions or need help with their Great Dane to keep as many Danes in their current homes as possible.

We will live by the motto: "Saving the life of one Great Dane will not change the world, but surely, for that one Great Dane the world will be changed forever."

Additional adoption info

Northwest Great Dane rescue works through an application process. Each family or individual interested in adopting a Dane through our program must complete an application and have it approved prior to adoption. Those with an approved application are contacted when dogs are available. Approved applicants are contacted via email before dogs are listed on our website or Facebook pages.

We require a securely fenced yard at a minimum height of five feet.If you are planning to fence your yard at a later date, please wait until your fencing is completed to fill out an application.

We do not adopt Danes to homes wishing to have a dog who lives outside.Great Danes are indoor dogs requiring close contact with their human families.

For homes already with dogs, we strongly prefer to place Great Danes with the opposite gender. (Male with female or female with male)Placement of Danes with dogs of the same gender is made only after meeting the dogs and assessing the situation.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to being adopted.

We adopt Danes to homes in Western Montana, Idaho and Eastern Washington. We follow up with all our adopted Danes throughout their lifetimes and take them back if needed.

A home visit is usually required prior to an adoption. At our discretion, we may request a visit to your home to verify fencing or other aspects of the home.

We request a donation of $250.00 plus reimbursement for veterinary costs if applicable. This includes certain vaccines, a microchip including registration fee, leash, collar, tags, and care packet. The only acceptable forms of payment are cashiers check, money order or cash. We do not accept checks or PayPal for adoption donations and/or medical reimbursements.

Please note that Northwest Great Dane Rescue reserves the right to refuse an adoption to an approved home if they deem the home is not suitable for the dog; even if an application has been approved.

Additional requirements may also apply as applicable to individual dogs.
