Rescue FAQs

We are the national rescue group for the Italian Greyhound Club of America organization. We are an all-volunteer organization with people caring for Italian Greyhounds within their homes rather than in a shelter, giving them a more personal experience and allowing us to know the dogs better in order to ensure a better placement in to a new home. Our national organization places 500-900 Italian Greyhounds annually in almost every state within the US.
We adopt and accept surrenders of pure-bred Italian Greyhounds from throughout downstate NY (including Westchester, NYC and Long Island), NJ, and PA. Since we are part of a national rescue organization, if you live outside those areas we have reps near you too (including upstate NY, New England and the Mid-Atlantic areas). So, feel free to reach out to us and we can put you in contact with the rescue representative for your area.

Additional adoption info

Anyone interested in adopting a dog must submit an adoption application to be considered as a home for one of our adoptable IGs. Once the adoption application is returned we will check references and setup an in-home visit which helps us identify if any particular dog may or may not fit well in your family.

Once an IG is identified for a home, we require an adoption donation which helps us pay for medical costs for the dogs who are in foster care while awaiting their new homes. All dogs are adopted already spayed or neutered (no exceptions), up-to-date on shots (rabies and distemper), given a heartworm test, and other medical issues addressed as determined by a veterinarian.

Upon adoption, we have a simple adoption contract needing signed stating you will provide regular medical care for the Italian Greyhound, get dental cleanings, and allow the dog to live in your home as part of the family. Additionally, if an adoption does not work, you agree to return the dog to rescue and are not allowed to sell or give the dog to another person, animal shelter or rescue organization.
