Big Heads Bigger Hearts's adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our fees vary on the age, breed and length of time the dog or cat has resided in rescue. Please contact us directly for adoption fees.

Interested adopters will need to fill out a adoption application. Depending on the responses to the application, we will proceed with a meet and greet. All of our dogs and cats require a meet and greet with all animals and people in the home, followed by a home inspection. If both the home inspection and meet and greet goes well, the animal will begin a 7 day trial. if after the 7 day trial, the adopter wishes to proceed, a contract will be signed and microchip and license if applicable will be transferred.

About Big Heads Bigger Hearts

Our main focus is rescuing and rehabilitating dogs and cats with behavioral challenges. We work close with a group of well trained foster homes and trainers in our area to ensure these dogs are given the best chance at finding their perfect family. We take great pride in matching our animals with families who are their match. To ensure this happens, we have a fairly extensive adoption process. There is no such thing as a bad dog... Basically meaning we thrive to take all our rescue animals training needs very seriously and believe all animals deserve a chance to overcome their challenges with proper training. All our animals only become available for adoption when they have exceeded all their basic obedience skills and we have perfected the animals pet profile to match with possible adopters applications.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
