My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

5/25/14 - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!
ADOPTION FEE: $500

Fostered in Texas

Weight: 5 lbs.

Age: 1.5 years

5/13/14 - Alright, now that we know that my health is good and I’m obviously the cutest pup on this site, I don’t understand why I still do not have a last name. I mean, are you people really understanding the depth of my adorableness?

When you come to your senses and are ready to apply for me, I will need another pup to play with and a fenced back yard for us to romp in. Even though I can go 0-60 in 2.1 seconds, I can still curl up in a lap and be the best cuddle bug you have ever seen. I do have a high energy level and am super playful. Oh, the great thing, in my foster home, I am pretty much potty trained and will either go on the pee pads or outside. Now, don’t let this fool you as once I change homes, it will take me a little while to get my schedule down.

And.... just an extra, added benefit.... with my radar ears, I can alert you ahead of time if anyone is ever trying to break into our home. Can you read the paper now? Dog thwarts robbery attempt because of ultrasonic hearing.

3/12/14 - Gizmo went back to the internal medicine specialist at GCVS on 3/6/14 for a ct scan. This test, again, definitively showed that there was no liver shunt. Being that Gizmo’s bile acids were elevated, they decided to put him on Denamerin for 30 days and then recheck his bile acids. At this point Gizmo could just have elevated bile acids normally or slight MVD. None of this would change in his lifestyle now. His bile acids would just need to be checked regularly, no more so than his yearly checkups and shots, to make sure all is well.

He continues to be a very playful little tyke and is ready for that home that has another playful pup in it, but also has that inviting lap or shoulder to rest on, when he wants to be treated as the baby. He is so adorable, that it will be hard to let him go, but he does need a last name of his own and deserves to be settled into the home where he will never move again.

2/21/14 - When Gizmo III first came to YHR, his foster mom noticed signs of him acting a little funny, but could not put her finger on exactly what was out of place. Just things like his energy level came and went and he would tire out quickly even though he played hard and he was a very finicky eater. We decided to have his bile acids run to see if anything was going on with his liver. His bile acid results came back high which is indicative of some type liver issue. At that point, he was referred to GCVS for an ultrasound. The ultrasound did not show any signs of liver shunt, so we were instructed to wait 4 weeks and have the bile acids run again to see if they stayed the same or went any higher.

Just recently Gizmo went back to the vet to have his bile acid taken again and they were higher than before. His foster mom is in the process of setting up another appt. with GCVS where they will probably do a portal scan to try to see if he does possibly have a liver shunt and the ultrasound before just did not pick it up.

We will update everyone as soon as we find out what, if anything, this little man has going on. Otherwise, he is a healthy and happy little guy who LOVES to play with his foster fursiblings.

1/3/14 - Foster Mom: Gizmo, what sweet eyes you have!
Gizmo: Better to see you with, foster mom.

Foster Mom: Gizmo, what big ears you have!
Gizmo: Better to hear you with, foster mom (and hence the name, duh).

Foster Mom: Gizmo, what a great personality you have!
Gizmo: Better to help get me adopted, foster mom.

Gizmo is just a little over 1 year of age and his current residence is his 4th place of dwelling. His first owners (who got him as a puppy), realized they were too busy for a puppy and all the puppy antics. His second owner realized that she was not up to potty training a puppy. Now he is in rescue and his next home will be his LAST!

He is in a foster home with other dogs and after the initial shy and intimidated period, has settled in as a happy member of the pack. We think his introduction to other dogs previously was very little, but he plays like crazy now with another playful pup in the foster home as well as toys & his humans. He would truly enjoy a canine playmate and since he is so young, would benefit from the socialization.

Gizmo has a particular palate, and is somewhat finicky in the eating department. Foster mom is trying different things to see what will tickle his fancy. He seems to be very stimulated by people food and it is quite possible that he was given table scraps a lot and this has made the dog food not so appealing. Foster mom is trying to teach him good manners ;)

Being that he is still puppy and still in his potty training and CHEWING stage, when home alone, he is in an x-pen for his safety and the safety of the home. Lol He’s quite the acrobat as well. He leaps and jumps, flying through the air as if he has wings. Somewhat like a cat jumping to his perch, he will jump on the sofa and then to the back of it walking along it as if it were a tightrope performance.

He loves anyone that will give him attention and let him kiss them. He is a lover and snuggle bug for sure. He cannot get enough. Super sweet to everyone and loves being near his humans. If other dogs are taking up the human’s lap, no fear, Gizmo will walk his tightrope and lay behind your neck. He doesn't growl unless he's playing rough with and we figure that is just him saying, “this is fun”. He's got a very young, loving, sweet spirit.

He and his foster mom are working on potty training and he is doing well walking on a harness and leash and getting a little more used to what he is outside to do. While inside, he is wearing a belly band (male diaper) which is aiding in his training. A fenced yard would be a plus for him (and a playmate) to get out that puppy energy.

He’s practicing to go on the road with Ozzy Osbourne, but foster mom is working on putting the kibosh on that. His barking can sometimes hit an alarmingly high decibel which can be startling. She’s trying to be one step ahead of him and coming up with new ways to bring that disturbing habit to a halt.

He isn’t a true fan of the bath or blow-dry, but will sit for a brushing as long as you give him something to chew on. Otherwise, he tries to chew on the brush playfully while you are brushing him.

In summary, Gizmo III will make a great wonderful companion and playmate for another dog. He’s sweet, loving, playful, puppy, ready to learn and has a great temperament. He’ll melt your heart when you pick him up and he puts his paws around your neck, like a hug.

Just think, you can fulfill your need for another furbaby to love and give a rescued pup a great life and a last name in the process.
