"Major's" Story:
I found this loving German Shepherd in really bad shape at the end of September, 2013. He was scratching and chewing on himself, so I had him tested and he is allergic to beef and milk. So chicken and lamb are now his diet. His ribs were showing and my friend that lives in the neighborhood where I found him said he had been around for several weeks, begging for food. He must have been mistreated because he has calluses on his elbows and hips from lying down so much. I took him to the vet. He is about 5 years old, but acts like a puppy. He was heartworm positive for adults and larvae, but has completed the treatment program and had a negative test result September, 2014. He is so smart! Don’t know if he is crate trained, but I suspect not. He is house-trained, now. I have such a small yard and was not looking for a large dog to keep.

He needs someone who is willing to take him to the vet for his regular check-ups, bathe him, keep him on a flea/tick program and continue giving him heartworm prevention on a monthly basis. I have had him neutered. He is active and needs daily exercise.

He should not be with other dogs. By the looks of his torn ears, he was either taught to fight or allowed to fight and to him all dogs are potential sparing mates. He was friendly towards a female Labrador, so maybe there is hope.

Age: 5-6 yrs. old
Gender: Male, neutered
Housetrained: Yes
Crate trained: Willing to bet he is not.
Heartworm: Negative
Chipped: No
Good with other dogs: No
Good with cats: Scared of them (I have two) but stays just on the other side of the glass door and doesn't bark at them.
Good with Children: He was fine with the 9 year old boy across the street

He learns fast and is very “owner loyal”. I have named him "Major". He has become quite a handsome fellow now that his hair has grown back. He loves attention. He likes my cats and they tolerate him.

If you have a nice yard and a good home, I hope you will consider Major. He gets along with kids and people just fine. It's other dogs that he has problems with. I am working with him on this as we take our walks.

Adoption fee: $100
