My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oppie's adoption fee is $375.

Dachshund lovers - prepare to meet the most unique Miniature Dachshund my foster mother has ever met: ME.

Hi! My name is Oppie, and I'm a 13 pound, long-haired smooth coat (mostly red, but with black lowlights on the tips of my ears and tail). If you saved your crimper from the 1980s, you can style your hair to match my kinky ginger locks! I’m about 16-18 months old, and am neutered, up to date on vaccines and micro chipped.

Ideally I'm looking for someone who will help me get lots of exercise (you or a dog-walker) and who wants to spend lots of time together. I'm still a young adult with energy to burn. If you get up, I will get up and follow you everywhere. I want to touch you all the time, so I tend to walk, run, and suddenly stop in the wrong place at the wrong time, which makes me a tripping hazard. As I don't have depth perception as I’m blind in one eye, I sometimes crash or bump into objects like table legs. I will miss you when you leave me, so I will whine and bark a bit and I'll always let you know when someone is approaching my---I mean "our"---property.

I'm really good about telling you when I need to go outside (I sing a different tune). If you're going to leave me alone, I need my own room in the form of a crate. I'll sleep in the crate or in the big bed with you, but I rather sleep wherever you are.

Foster mom says I'm the most peculiar doxie she's ever met because I LOVE being in the water (showers, baths, swimming...even outside in the RAIN). I'm not going to let some wetness scare me or stop me from having fun in the great outdoors. I can jump really high and I'm a fearless climber. I know that I love most other dogs...especially those that will chase me and play with me, but I'd be happy to be the only dog around, too! (More attention for me).

I will appreciate a good home and bond quickly to the family that loves me – could it be yours?

Note from Foster Mom:
Oppie has "digital dysplasia" meaning he has two fewer digits (2 "fingers") and claws (3 "nails" including dewclaw) on his front right paw and his right eye didn't develop normally. Oppie has NO CLUE that he looks a little different than any other dog, and doesn’t know that he is "disabled" by human standards...because he's not! Oppie was born this way, so he has never known life any differently.

Oppie has been treated with over-the-counter natural anti-anxiety medications to ease his separation anxiety. Positive changes have been noted.
