My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Izzy has been so quiet in the two weeks we’ve had her in our home, you’d barely even notice her except for the pitter-patter of her little footsteps on our hardwood floors. We can count the number of times she’s barked on one hand, and it’s always been when playing with her bigger bud, Axl Rose (another Chihuahua). They love to roll around together on one of our couches or on the area rugs, growling and nipping in a playful manner. I think Izzy would chase Axl around the house too, but she hasn’t quite gotten used to the hardwood. The first few days she had a couple of wipeouts on our floors reminiscent of Bambi trying to walk on ice. But she’s since gotten used to them and slips and slides her way around, following behind Axl. Izzy seems indifferent to toys right now, choosing instead to chase and nudge Axl when he’s running around with them.

I would guess Izzy is about five pounds, but she came to us underfed and needs to gain some weight. She seemed reluctant to eat almost anything we gave her at first, but now she devours anything we put in her bowl, all the while wagging her tail uncontrollably. There are no signs of food aggression with people, but she did bark at Axl the first day when he got too close to her bowl. They have since eaten nearly side-by-side without issue, even when Axl walks by her in hopes of eating some of her food after he’s gulped down his own.

Izzy has been reserved but friendly with visitors or wherever we’ve taken her. She’ll walk up to anyone and wag her tail for a little back rub. Once you stop petting her, she spins around and gently paws at your foot so you can continue the love. She’ll let anyone hold her, and she’s quick to curl up on or next to you and take a nap.

We’re still working on house-training Izzy, but she’s currently in heat and so nature is calling far more than normal. She sleeps well in her crate all night and doesn't whine or cry to come out. Really, she’s not fussy about anything. We’ve clipped her nails, brushed her, bathed her, and she’ll just sit there trusting you the entire way.

I still think there’s plenty more personality in this precious, little dog just waiting to show itself as she grows increasingly comfortable in a stable home environment. She was quick to adapt to our daily routines, and she’d be a wonderful addition to any home with or without another dog
