My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ellie is a 6 year old spayed chocolate female who weighs 110 pounds (needs to lose at least 15 lbs). She's a mellow and affectionate girl! She's house trained and does not like the crate (does not need one ~ just make sure to take tasty food off the counter!). Ellie typically goes for several walks daily. She is good with other dogs and lived with two part-time on weekends and does well. She can get nervous when meeting new dogs on walks but does well if given the opportunity for a proper introduction. Ellie can get nervous around small, barky dogs so probably best if no small dogs. Ellie knows basic commands such as sit, lay down, here, speak, paw and roll over. Ellie likes to retrieve but doesn’t always bring the ball back. She loves to swim! Ellie likes to be with her humans and stick by their side. Ellie has a history of seizures. She's on anti-seizure medication and doing well. Ellie has previously lived with small children and was great with them. As such, she's approved for kids of all ages.

NOTE: Ellie needs to go to a family where someone is home during the day to let her out every 3-4 hours. She is used to having a human around, so no long workdays for this girl. Only suitable for families who will be patient to give her time to adjust to her new schedule and surroundings.

Update (7/16): Ellie's epilepsy medication has been changed and she has responded wonderfully. No seizures!

From foster: Ellie has been in a foster home for about a week busy having lots of fun. She sent us this update: I get to swim at the beach each evening, and I love fetching sticks. Last weekend we went to a farm and I got to check out all kinds of new smells. This is like being at summer camp. Foster mom & dad also set up the pool for my foster brother and me. I love the water, but I am also willing to share and let Popeye have his turn. Popeye and I get along so well. As a matter of fact I meet a lot of dogs and people on our walks, and I like to say hi to everyone. I don't think I have ever met a person or doggy that I didn't like. This place is fun, but I hope to find my forever home real soon.

Update: Ellie has had no accidents in the house and she can go all night without having to go out. Ear scratches are great, tummy scratches are wonderful, but if you want her to be in heaven, then just scratch under her chin. She is very low maintenance, well except for that chin thing. She hasn't shown much interest in toys so far but does love to nibble on the resident dogs nylabones and plays a mean take away with a ball. She shares toys well. She takes treats easily and knows sit, come, outside and all the various ways to say breakfast and supper. She is food motivated and will be very easy to teach anything that her new family would want her to learn. Elllie meets people well and has great house manners.

Update: Ellie is the perfect combination of playful and snuggly companion. She enjoys playing with the resident lab. She settles quickly to make sure that her people get a healthy dose of attention while they sit on the couch. Ellie meets people well and takes treats easily. She is a smart cookie and knows sit, paw, roll over and every possible word for breakfast and supper. She is very gentle and will give you sweet kisses. She is house trained but doesn't like or need a crate. She likes to be with her people so someone who is home most of the time would be a good fit for her. She is a perfect companion!
