Vicky is a one-and-a-half year old Pomeranian/Papillion/Corgi mix who was rescued from the Devore Animal Shelter as a stray. Vicky weighs about 13 lbs. and has the appearance of a small Fox. She has a rich red silky coat with tufts of brown, tan and white throughout. She has warm golden brown eyes that are beautifully trimmed in dark brown liner and has a slight under-bite. Vicky is soft to the touch and loves to be held. Anyone who gives Vicky a hug will get a soft kiss on the nose in return!
As the saying goes, Vicky is truly “as sweet as pie.” She is loving, affectionate, submissive, and extremely tender. She would make for an exceptionally wonderful companion dog as she just longs to be near someone. Whether you are watching TV, cooking dinner in the kitchen or doing laundry, Vicky is nearby looking on adoringly. She is always up for a gentle scratch and if she is on your lap, will melt right into you, if not fall asleep! She is basically a calm dog who is neither dominant nor submissive in a dog pack and shows no aggression whatsoever. However, she does have some issues when her person leaves, however, we find that this is easy to manage. Simply put, we put her in her wire crate (36 inches long, so it’s sizeable and roomy) when we leave. If she whines, we tell her to hush. And she does hush, almost right away. As long as Vicky is crated when you leave, she’ll be fine. She will not be able to run all over the house, and yard, looking for you; at the same time, if crated, she won’t freak out or bite the crate or anything like that. She’ll wait, in her safe spot. We feel that Vicky needs a home with another dog, and, where people are home a bit more. No, not all of the time; that is not realistic, but not long periods either. It should be a timeframe whereby she can be comfortably crated, until such time that she has become fully adjusted to her new home and environment, and then, she will no longer need to be crated when you leave.
Vicky is currently in a foster house with two other dogs and initially engaged in light play, i.e., some running, chasing, going after a tennis ball, etc. However, as she has become more familiar and comfortable with her new playmates, her level of activity has noticeably increased. She will play tug-o-war, wrestle, chase and be chased and has even enjoyed scampering around at a local Frisbee park. Although she is not considered to be a highly active dog, she is no longer just primarily lounging around. We have also taken walks and she walks nicely on leash.
Vicky is quiet, not joining in when the other dogs bark. She has been potty-accident free after her first day in the foster home (however, potty reinforcement is always needed in any new environment) and she has learned to use the doggie door. Vicky is crate-trained and can sleep in a wire crate however in her foster home she sleeps on a pet bed as she has earned that trust. The home that we are seeking for Vicky is a home with another dog to keep her company when folks are away. A home with another upbeat dog, one who will hang with her, as well as play with her a bit, seems to be the type of home where Vicky shines best!
