My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated Bio 01/22/2014

Samson is a very Handsome, healthy younger acting 7yr old, neutered male Yorkshire Terrier, (DOB: 9-30-06); who weighs in at a healthy 9.5 lbs. He is tan & silver. He is current on Rabies, and is Heartworm negative, fecal negative.

Samson came into rescue as an owner surrender due to illness. It was determined that he had bladder stones which were surgically removed (Cystotomy) on 12-31-13. He is fully recovered and in his new foster home in St Petersburg, FL, looking for his forever loving family.

Samson is:

... well healed from his surgery and is ready for adoption; active, sweet & loving; cuddly; smart; & playful. Not a habitual barker. :)

... has been generally "a follower" & non-aggressive; alert; a good listener & willing to learn.

... basically is a mellow fella interested in what is going on around him.

... walks well on a leash

... on a vet prescribed diet of Hill's Diet - CD to prevent further formation of bladder stones, he will need to be on this special diet for life - but please do not let this prevent you from considering him, as this

food is no more expensive than any good, holistic / better diet food on the market!

Samson likes:

... to play with all kinds of toys in the home, loves balls & playing fetch - he even brings the ball back to you! He loves interaction with his person when playing with his toys. Not toy possessive!

... people & most dogs, will do best with most dogs under 20 lbs.

... being close with his person, cuddling on the couch or in the recliner with you.

... sleeping in his bed or with his person.

... back scratches, belly rubs, ear scratches... your attention & loving.

... is great on car rides, even in a crate, as long as he is secured safely.

... to be with his person, to follow you around & stay close by in his bed if you are busy at home.

... loves to run fast & free in our secured & enclosed back yard, & play fetch outdoors.

... shows interest in the squirrels.

... tolerates his bath well, & Learning to like daily grooming.

... loves carrots, apples, and a bit of canned plain pumpkin...and bedtime snack of a Greenie Teenie.

... is a great eater.

Samson:

... has had a few potty accidents in the home. This should improve as he settles into his foster home & learns the routine. He does not ask to go outside to do his business, so requires your observations for any clues he may give, we are working on verbal commands to go out, & using the "jingle bells strap" by the door to help him learn to ask to go out on his own.

... we do not know how he will do with cats as there are no cats in our home at this time.

... has some crate anxiety issues if crated when you leave the home, has messed in the crate, likely due to anxiety.

... has some separation anxiety & barks when left indoors alone, &, when you leave home, the barking usually subsides. This may be due to his recent rehoming & separation from his previous owner. He has done well left an hour in the bathroom with the door closed when we are away from home.

... He should do well with children 12 yrs of age & older.

... He requires a home with a secure fenced in yard to run & play in, with his human observing him at all times outdoors.

Samson, UYR, & His FM wish to thank all of Samson's special angels for their support & donations to help provide for his costly medical care.

Samson says: "Could your home be the forever loving home for me? I am patiently waiting for that person to find me soon" :)

INITIAL BIO 12/29/2013: Meet Samson. He is a 7 year old 9.5 lb little boy who was surrendered by his owner to a high kill shelter because Samson had a bladder stone blocking his urine. The shelter was able to push the stone back into his bladder. In the meantime, they placed a catheter to help ensure the stone wouldn't become reblocked. Samson is going to the vet tomorrow for emergency surgery to remove the stone and catheter. Once he is put on a prescription diet, there is a very very good chance these stones will not return and Samson will lead a normal life :)

We don't know much about Samson yet except that he likes dogs and people. He walks well on a leash. He is pretty mellow. He's an overall great dog. Samson says thanks for the love and support! His vetting is likely to exceed $600. Dogs like Samson are why UYR rescues the most difficult cases. He is a great dog who just needs a chance. Will you please help us help Samson?
