A picture is worth a 1000 words and a meeting is worth a 1000 photos. If not adopted, these pups will be at PetCo West at 6137 MidRiver Mall Drive, St. Charles/ St. Peters on Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00. If you want to adopt this pup, reserve her or him with an application. If you hope the pups will be available and coming up, email us to find out at dogs@takeafriendhome.org. Many puppies are "reserved" before the weekend.
Sedan is one of 4 pups in a variety pack litter. He looks a lot like Mom who is a small Lab mix girl who might have some Border Collie in her. Socrates and Sparky both look border Collie-ish and their sister, Serenity looks like a Min Pin pup. All of the pups are very social, sweet, smart, and eager to be with people. These babies were born in our shelter about 3 weeks after Mom arrived. They have been raised with lots of attention! Mom weighs 35 pounds. the pups will likely be about her size... Serenity will be smaller. If this is the pup for you, click on the link to the application. Complete and send. An application is the first step to reserving your pup. Information on these breeds is available at dogbreedinfo.com. It will give you lots of information about temperament and needs.
Housetrained? Our pups live in an inside pen with a dog door to the outside but they are too young to master the art unless you do. A pup is just a baby until they are 12 weeks old and can’t be expected to any more “pottie trained” than a 9 month old baby. In other words, your “baby” needs an indoor option and can only be as will be as housetrained as you are. For your dog to be successful: use a crate, go out with your dog, praise “right action”, and expect more of yourself than you do of your dog. Housetraining tips are in your adoption packet.
Pups this age have not been spay/neutered… too young and small. With our contract, you agree to alter your pup before he or she is 6 months old. We will provide information on low cost spay neuter programs in your area. If you decide not to use those options, we will bring your pup back to our vet and have that procedure done for you for $25. Our pups have had all the vaccines possible to date. Puppies need vaccines every two weeks until they are 16 weeks old. At that time, they are old enough for their rabies vaccines.
Adoption Fees and Payment Plans: We take credit cards and checks. Payments can be arranged with a credit card. As with all of our adoptions, we know it is hard to get married on a blind date... even to a wonderful pup. We will take our dog back give a full refund in the first week. After 7 days, we will take your puppy back and you can consider your adoption fee a tax deductible donation to a very appreciative organization. To hold a pup longer that the earliest possible delivery date, we ask for a $50 non-refundable deposit.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sparky Border Collie, a St. Louis Border Collie/Labrador Retriever puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Border Collie/Labrador Retriever for sale in St. Louis, or seeking a Border Collie/Labrador Retriever puppy from a breeder in St. Louis.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in St. Louis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a St. Louis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Border Collie/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Border Collie/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in St. Louis paves the way for another one to be saved.
