My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HURLEY. FIRST RESCUE OF 2014. Beautiful yes. But this is a sad situation. This irresponsible breeding of double dapples in order to get an extraordinary result has just got to stop. These rarities are almost always with a cost. No big deal, if you think dachshunds are disposable. BUT WE DON'T THINK THEY ARE. It is heart breaking to see so many special needs puppies just cast aside.

So here is little Hurley, pure white, long-haired dachshund. Little fellow is deaf, but we think not vision impaired (on his way to vet for full checking). He is 18 months old and the sweetest baby boy. Loves everyone and everything. Beautiful blue eyes. Loves kids and other doxies. PLEASE NOTE: He can only be placed with supervising adults at home full time either work from home or retired.

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same sex in a home and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer no smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, all shots, wormer & flea protection, nails trimmed, the works. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, no exceptions as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give him a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will be in touch with you within 48 hours so please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
