My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY LISTING. Max is a standard-sized, 6 year old, male dachshund with black, smooth hair and light dapples around his neck. He weighs 16 lbs and is not neutered. Max, had a herniated disc and underwent surgery in November 2013. He still does not have full use of his hind legs, however, has movement in his hips and tail and has recently been trying to stand on his own. He still has no full control of his bladder so a catheter must be administered twice a day to relieve his bladder. He has been showing improvement towards a full recovery and we believe he just needs more time but his family have found it difficult to continue his care at the needed level..They are looking to find a rescue for him that can provide him with the care he needs and/or eventually find a new home for him that will provide what he needs.
Max is leash-trained and does well traveling in cars. He gets along well with children and other dogs. Max knows basic commands - sit, stay, no, up, down.
Max enjoys being both indoors and outdoors. He likes to explore and roam around. He's a lively and happy dachshund. Friendly and protective. He also loves attention and lots of affection - chest rubs and cuddling.

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same sex in a home and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer no smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, all shots, wormer & flea protection, nails trimmed, the works. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, no exceptions as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give him a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net - the adoption committee will be in touch with you within 48 hours so please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
