My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE 2/2/14: Daria and Dillon have an adoption pending TOGETHER! We are no longer accepting applications. Thank you :)

Little Daria's story is unlike any we have ever had in our years of rescue here at MJAS. Daria was dumped at a kill shelter by heartless owners at the tender age of 8 weeks old, back in June, 2013. She grew up in the shelter and was overlooked time and time again because she was a black dog. Somehow she miraculously avoided being euthanized for space as is common in these rural shelters. Somehow also she was allowed to get pregnant while in the shelter! Still a puppy herself, Daria delivered her babies on the coldest night in recent history in an outdoor kennel in South Carolina. One lone puppy was somehow able to survive, and Dara took amazing care of him! Daria has been the most amazing, attentive mother as if she had done this many times (but we know she hasn't).

Daria is now only 8 months old and once her baby Dillon is 8 weeks old, she will be spayed and fully vetted. She is currently up to date on vaccines and has been dewormed, de-flea-ed, and is heartworm negative. She is on heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention. Daria will be microchipped at the time of her spay surgery sometime in mid-February.

Daria is the sweetest, smartest, prettiest little girl. She is quite petite at around only 25 lbs. She could stand to gain a few pounds which we expect will happen when she weans Dillon, who is a little porker. She is only 8 months old and when she is away from Dillon, Daria's puppy-ness in her comes out! She LOVES other dogs! She loves to run, play, dash around with squeaky toys, and will play with others and alone. She LOVES human contact and will thrive in an active household that includes her in most things. Daria can be adopted alone or with her baby Dillon. Daria is great with children, other dogs, and even cats! Daria is currently living in a foster home with other dogs and a cat, and is now completely housebroken.

We are accepting applications for Daria now, even though she cannot be adopted until after she is spayed in mid-February. Interested adopters please email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com to request an adoption application. PLEASE SPECIFY if you are interested in adopting Daria alone or with her puppy Dillon, who was born December 14, 2013. Adopters are subject to reference checks, vet reference, meet and greet, and home visit. Adoption fee applies.
