Awww... Sweetcake! She is such a good little gal. Loves to play, loves her people, loves to snuggle... Sweetcake's perfect person or family would be a couple with grown up kids (or no kids), with a fenced yard and a quiet home, and maybe a good friend with a male dog who comes over sometimes for play. Sweetie is great around little kids (she has spent a lot of time with a volunteer's 4 year old) and dogs her size she meets, but does not want to live with kids or another dog 24/7. She loves hikes and being outdoors, so going on leashed activities with her family would be something she'd adore! She so loves her people, she'd make you feel like the best and most important person in the world, just for choosing her and being there for her. Sweetie is 60lbs, 3 years old, spayed, healthy and up to date on her shots! She rides great in the car, is super in a crate, and knows sit, down, stay, and heel!

About Red Hook Dog Rescue (NNE)

About Our Rescue Group...

Red Hook Dog Rescue is a labour of love, rescuing literally one "forgotten" dog at a time from long-term boarding situations and finding them great homes in Northern New England.

People so often focus on animals on "death row" at kill shelters, they forget what happens to those dogs once they are "rescued". Many times, they end up just being stuck in boarding, in some cases for years at a time. A kennel is not a home.

We are a tiny, tiny rescue. We do not accept owner surrenders, though if you are having trouble keeping your pet we are always happy to talk to you and help you look for solutions to either keep your pet, or find a responsible place for the pet to go.

Our Adoption Process...

We require an adoption application and home visit, as well as vet reference checks. Our adoption fee is $250 and there is an adoption contract.

We sometimes require novice dog owners to attend one-on-one training/obedience classes with a local trainer (at no cost to the adopter).

All our animals for adoption are spayed/neutered, healthy, and up to date on shots. All have at least basic obedience training (housetrained, crate trained, know "sit" and "down").
