Tick is one special little boy. He has the fluff and stunning beauty of a shepherd that has somehow been stretched over the stubby little body of a basset. The shorter legged doggies are so funny to look at; so entertaining to watch. His whole back end will wag when he wags his tail. He will be great to cuddle too.
Tick had to be physically carried out of the shelter but within 3 days there was not a sign of fear or anxiety anywhere. Now he just wants to romp and play with his kennel mate, Ginger. He likes to engage other dogs to play. He will get down on his elbows with his butt in the air - play pose.
He will follow you and rub you to get your attention and to get some pets. Tick knows some basic commands and will do them when asked. He is food motivated so if you want to teach him more tricks it can be a little easier.
Tick barks only if there is something that alarms him. He is going to make almost any family very happy. Once you get past that gorgeous outer shell of his, you will see that there is another whole level of beauty beneath just waiting to love you. Multi-leveled beauty. That is what Tick is.

Unless otherwise indicated, all Double Dog Rescue dogs have received the following before being available for adoption:
Thorough veterinary examination
All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kkennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming
Spay/Neuter
All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.
If any dog shows any signs of disease or ailment, DDR vets the dog until he or she has a clean bill of health to the best of our knowledge. This includes anything from being treated for Heartworm, Broken Leg, Cherry Eye, Torn ACL, Upper Respiratory etc.)
NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 4 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
