Here is what else his foster mom had to say:
Charlie is really into food (and an expert scavenger from stray-life), and he will check to see if you wanted to share your food with him. If you don't he's also okay with that and will leave you alone... Because of his over-arching desire to make you happy.
Charlie has a big, big head! Everyone comments on his enormous cute teddy bear fluffy malamute head. It doesn't seem to fit his short legs and medium sized body. And he loves when people squish his head around, or generally hang off of his head. He can be a bit mouthy and licky if he gets into excited play, but he corrects pretty well. The back of his ears have a little bit of scar tissue on them, from being outside, perhaps from frostbite or flies. The scar tissue is black around the borders and pinkish in the centres, making some people comment that it looks like he has eyes in the back of his head.
Charlie has only a moderate energy level. He can't run fast at all, and he doesn't need long walks. He is really friendly with everyone, greeting all with a waggly tail but, he would need obedience training and a bit more calmness be great around little kids, as he might get too excited. He is not good with cats as he wants to chase them and he can be a bit of a problem with some dogs so the dog park isn't the place for him. It is probably due to his time as a stray and having to fight for food. He has been neutered and this may calm him down in that regard.
In the home he is wonderful and I have had no issues leaving him alone. He is very quiet and I have never heard him bark, only a whine. When my boyfriend came in at 3 am in the morning, he never barked. He absolutely loves to go hiking in the woods, getting belly rubs and cuddling. He has never counter surfed and knows his basic commands such as sit, lie down, off. He is fully house trained and can be left for a full working day with no issues. He loves his crate! He feels safe there. He can stay in it for 8 hours. He is showing improvement with walking on leash, because he is so inclined to try and listen/please, but he needs further training. He loves going for car rides and behaves very well in the car.
Charlie is a bulldozer and will need someone strong enough to handle that (and I am strong enough for him, so that's not asking for a whole lot). He needs a home with adults or older children due to his size and someone who has an interest in training a super-trainable animal to become their best friend.
If you would like to give this wonderful boy a new home, please submit an application for consideration.
Thanks go out to Joan Kennedy for sponsoring Charmander and for helping to save his life!
