Here is what else his foster family had to say:
Pippin especially loves walks (we are walking him in a Gentle Leader, he is a puller) loves rawhide, really loves his squeaky toy! Pippin is also super smart and food motivated, and learns new commands very quickly! We think Pippin is a lab/beagle mix, and maybe even has some corgi mixed in there.
Pippin is a very healthy boy and sheds very little. He has puppy energy and is a bouncy boy. he hasn't met many children, bue has been friendly with everyone so far. He does like to 'jump up' so we worry that he might knock very small children over until he has a little more training under his belt. He is very polite with new dogs, who he meets frequently on walks. VERY friendly with cat (not mutual), would like to 'play' with cat. Probably would chase.
He doesn't seem to have any fears and thinks the vacuum cleaner is a hilarious game. he loves going for walks, running around the backyard, chewing a rawhide bone or playing with a squeaky toy. He will bark when someone comes to the door but stops as soon as they come inside. He does still need supervision and will get into things if left unattended for long periods. He is well on his way to being house trained and has never had an accident but he hasn't yet learned to signal that he needs to go out so we just let him out often. He has never had an accident when left in his crate for the afternoon or at night. He does often require a cookie to 'go to bed' though. He is learning all his basic commands and is eager to please. he is not leash trained, but walkable.
Pippin is super intelligent and trainable, and is making progress with clicker training already. In four days he has gone from no commands to reliable sit and lie down just from hand signs. He would be a fun dog to teach all the 'bells and whistles', and learns very very fast. He has already made the connection between being asked to sit and getting a reward, to sitting when he is 'asking' for something. Has started to modify his first instinct, jumping up to greet people, to sitting as a greeting.
We feel that although Pippin is very friendly and lovable he would currently be best suited to a home that doesn't have small children, as he is mouthy and likes to jump up, and we think he might knock over (unintentionally) or scare small children. He also would be ideally suited to a house with a back yard and be taken for lots of walks, and someone who is consistent with discipline. With further training he will make a wonderful family pet.
If you would like to make this intelligent, loving boy part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
Thank you to Jennifer Cleary and James Buckowski for sponsoring Pippin and saving his life!
