Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Name: Georgie
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier
Sex: Male-nt
Age: 3 years
Size: Medium
Coat-color: Blue Fawn (Brown)
Group: Terrier - Companion
Energy Level: Moderate
Pit Bull Terriers have a really long list of notable traits common to the breed(s). Standing above all of them though and perhaps the most important characteristic of these often misidentified and inaccurately portrayed dogs is their very hearty and genuine love of people.
In listing Georgie's traits we would have to include as notable: sweet, steadfast, loyal, confident, intelligent, eager to please, responsive to training, active, playful, athletic, resourceful, determined, engaging, and having a zest for life - not really surprising since they are indeed traits common to Pit Bull Terriers. Also not so surprising is Georgie's most important characteristic - his hearty and genuine love of people.
Infectiously happy, wholeheartedly affectionate, and extremely people pleasing, this loveable handsome hunk, in a nutshell, is an outstanding companion for responsible, proactive, and caring owners.
Georgie's exercise needs are moderate and can be met with regular leashed walks, interactive play sessions, and outdoor exploration in a secured yard. Although he's a calm and pretty laid-back canine most of the time, he has an extremely playful nature, he's completely gaga about toys, and he will become very excited during playtime when toys are involved. Although vigorous play with toys is entirely acceptable and a great way for some of his exercise needs to be met, it's important that Georgie's new family members understand the role of leadership and the importance of play sessions being directed.
Georgie is pretty social and friendly with other dogs too. He currently participates in a play group with other dogs all who he gets along well with. A well-behaved and attentive canine who learns very quickly, he can be stubborn at times. Being highly intelligent and inquisitive means he will need mental challenges as part of his daily routine too.
Georgie is best suited for a home with a calm, moderately-active lifestyle. A structured environment, sound leadership, and continued training and socialization is a must so as to ensure his success as a well-mannered and obedient canine companion and family member. We would prefer that his new home have no cats, and we will require a meet and greet with any housemate pets prior to adoption.
Note: MSPCA rescued Georgie from the Monroe County Animal Control (MCAC). When we first met him, he was virtually hairless and infested with fleas. Tests ruled out Mange as the culprit for his hair loss. Georgie's attending DVM believes the hair loss was caused by a persistent flea infestation that was left untreated for a very long period of time. Flea removal and prevention along with a good diet helped his hair to start growing back. Although hair now covers his entire body, it's growing slowly and still somewhat sparse in some areas.
Georgie currently resides in a foster-boarding environment. You can meet him at our regular adoption events and by pre-arrangement with approved Adoption Application. You can also contact us by e-mailing info@monroespca.org.
All dogs available for adoption at Monroe SPCA are spay/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped. Please visit our website for upcoming event dates or for more information about how to adopt this indoor-only companion pet at monroespca.org.
