Here's what the humans have to say about me:
CC is a split faced beauty with a black and white semi rough coat. We estimate her age to be somewhere around 10-12 months old. CC was picked up as a stray from Lompoc. She was adopted from the shelter to a lady who already had a female 12 year old BC. The 2 females did not get along, so CC was returned to the shelter. The shelter then contacted BCIN and asked if we could take her into our program.
CC is a higher drive and energetic BC, very typical of her breed and her young age. Exercise and mental stimulation are a must, going for walks around the block are not going to cut it for this adolescent girl. Due to her previous owners' failure to properly socialize her, CC's social skills are somewhat limited and she can be a bit reactive. She will require a home with previous BC and/or herding breed experience and she will not be placed in a home with other dogs (or cats). CC is what we like to call, a diamond in the rough. She will need to be the darling of her new home and an owner who is committed and willing to focus on positive reinforcement training, structure and consistency to slowly build her confidence and socialize her properly. Old school, dominance and "alpha" based training WILL NOT WORK with this sweet, affectionate girl!
CC really needs a job to do. Her energy, athleticism and brilliant mind need to be properly channeled. This is not a dog for the first time dog or BC owner. BC's want to work WITH their people and CC is no exception to this rule. She is a lovely companion in the car and enjoys running errands with her foster mom. Like many herding breeds, CC is a bit motion sensitive but she does have an "off" button, so she settles nicely and likes to cuddle. CC has wonderful leash manners and is well on her way to learning basic obedience. What she wants more than anything is to find that special person she can finally trust and forge the unique bond that only a BC can give you. CC is smart as a whip and we believe she will excel most in a performance home, or with someone who is interested in canine sports or advanced obedience. All in all, we love CC and we think she has all the potential in the world to blossom into an amazing dog for the right person.
If you are interested in meeting our dogs, please go on line and fill out an adoption application. We require a pre-approved application to be on file before any meet and greets are scheduled. The electronic application can be found on our website at http://www.bordercolliesinneed.org/border_collie_rescue_and_adoptions/adoption_application.html
