My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chunk : 4 Year Old Neutered YELLOW MALE 100 Pounds

Yes, Chunk was named after the character in the movie Goonies! He is one handsome boy; don’t you think? Due to health issues of his owner and limited time of the family they can no longer care for or give Chunk the attention he needs. His mom is a yellow female from a breeder in Petaluma and his dad is a Chocolate male from Sacramento who is a Champion dock diving dog. (A great thing to do with Chunk would be dock diving.) Chunk has been an outside dog all his life; his owner would not allow him in the home. His home has been an Igloo outside in the yard. Chunk has never known what the comforts of home should be.

He is a very intelligent boy that craves attention and for someone to be his leader. Chunks does know sit; his other commands are limited. He was just recently neutered; this will of course help him focus on being a good canine citizen. The few times that Chunk was allowed to come into the house briefly he would run for the door and bark, and then run out the door, no one had ever told him that this is not a good or safe thing to do. Chunk is a strong boy that has not been walked on a leash very much, but with guidance and persistence he will be a great walking or jogging buddy for someone. Chunk has met other dogs and does well with them. We currently have Chunk at our boarding facility where he is doing well. He has been separate from his sister as she can be the protective bossy type. He has been fine with other dogs and he has started to focus more with regular exercise and attention. He is a very nice boy he just needs daily exercise and a strong leader. He has been clean in his kennel and with crate training or no freedom for a few weeks he would make an easy transition into the home.

Chunk is a big active boy he will need to go to a home with older children, in his excitement he may knock smaller children down. We are not sure about cats; he has never been introduced to them, and so a cat free home will be best for him. When riding in a car, it may take him a few minutes to settle down, with time and more car rides he will do well. Chunk loves to swim; this would be a great way to exercise this young boy. He does not show any possessiveness with food or toys. He will bark if someone comes to the door or he hears a sound he is unsure of.

Chunk needs a family that will welcome him into the home and make him part of the family and all their activities. He will need patience, persistence and calm leadership and in return you will get an awesome companion to be a member of your family. We will be looking for a home where someone is there part of the day, preferably has had lab experience and can give him structure and guidance, a home where he will be an inside dog, and a home that will continue his training. Chuck is a very healthy dog that could lose a few pounds but he is current on all his shots, has his microchip, heartworm negative and recently was neutered. He is located in Mountain View.

Please call Rescue Rep Judy T. @ 707-480-8469 if you are interested in adopting this wonderful guy.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
