MEET JOEY. Joey is a handsome, long haired standard neutered male dachshund. He weighs about 26 pounds (could stand to lose a pound or two -- couldn't we all!), and is a healthy 7 year old. Joey needs a new home due to newly introduced small children who are upsetting his routine. He would like a stable and quiet home with a nice backyard to play in. He loves using his doggie door and coming and going at will. Joey has a strong prey drive, so no cats or other small animals please. Older children OK, but wouldn't mind being an "only child." Likes going for walks and would be a great companion.
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same sex in a home and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer no smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, all shots, wormer & flea protection, nails trimmed, the works. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, no exceptions as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
