My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there. My name is Ruby. I am 1 ½ years old and I weigh about 25 lbs.
I was found as a stray in the Wellsville area. It was freezing cold and on a night when we were hit with a snowstorm. I was emaciated (weighing in at only 15 lbs at the time) and scared to death of everyone and everything. I was starving so finally the girl who came out to get me was able to catch me by using some yummy food.
I have been here at the pound since January now and I am really hoping to find a new home with a family to love soon. I have came around so much since I have been here. I used to huddle up in the corner and shake uncontrollably. Now I prance around hen I am in my kennel and make some noise to get people’s attention on me! Boy, let me tell ya, I love attention! I totally adore being petted and loved and I have even became a great lap dog and professional cuddler since I have been here. I love to put my front paws on your lap while you’re sitting down and reach up to give you kisses and gentle nibbles on the nose. I love being in the office! My favorite part is that is quiet and a girl can catch a real good nap in here on these super soft and cozy beds. Also, I am a totally awesome door greeter! “Hi welcome to the CCDP! Now reach down here and give me some love!”… That’s what I would say if I could actually talk!! That would be so cool!
I love other dogs, so I would love to have a new dog friend when I find a new family, but don’t fret if you don’t have another dog but would like to adopt me ‘cause I am also just fine with being the only dog. That just means more attention for me, right?! I am a very sweet and playful girl with the other dogs.
I have also learned all about playing with toys since I have been here and let me tell ya… That is a really fun game!! I don’t really know how to fetch or anything yet, but I do love chasing and grabbing the toys you through for me. My favorite toys are those really fuzzy ones. I try to be very gentle with them, but sometimes I get a little too rough and they squeak… yikes! I stop and look around to make sure nobody seen me hurt the little fellows and then go back to it. What a fun thing it is.
So, I do have a couple of things that some people might consider “issues” and some people might not, so I will lay them out for you… I have had some kind of head trauma. The pound isn’t really sure what happened since I was just a stray, but the vets guess is that I was likely kicked in the head or hit in the head with something. Needless to say, I now have a slight neurological glitch, which to me isn’t a big deal ‘cause I am such a happy go lucky girl now that it doesn’t even bother me. Some people don’t want me now, though, because I am a little bit “different”. You see, I walk just fine for the most part, however sometimes I do spin in circles sometimes, especially when I get excited. I also have no vision in my left eye. My eye functions normally, I just cannot see out of it.
Because I came in to the pound nearly starved to death and I never knew where my last meal was coming from, naturally I am a bit of a food guarder with both dogs and people. My food guarding has subsided substantially since I have been here and I am now being fed regularly, but it is still there sometimes so I need to be fed separate from the other dogs at me new home.
Aside from the couple of said “issues” I am quite an awesome little girl if I do say so myself and I am really hoping to find a new home soon so please consider adopting me!!
