My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Paulie and I am 1 year old. I am a rescue boy who has a story to tell. I was picked up as a stray when I was just 8 months old and brought to the local animal shelter. I had a broken tail and a severely broken right front leg. You see my previous owner never brought me to the doctor to get my leg fixed. Instead, they made a home-made splint and that was all. I was in such pain for weeks! I begged them for help, I cried and cried. Then one day, I found myself out on my own, to fend for myself. When animal control picked me up, I thought surely my family would come looking for me and take me back home! I waited and waited. Finally, I realized they were not coming for me, they didn’t care! Not only was my leg broken, but my heart as well. I figured out how things worked at the shelter, if you are lucky you may get to go home with a different family! So, I prayed for one for me. Days went by and nothing. As I sat there in my cage, I came to the conclusion that I wasn’t getting out of here alive. Who would want me? I’m broken, I’m damaged goods! I prepared myself for what may become of me. I continued to pray every night, before crying myself to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, one of the shelter staff people opened my kennel and carried me down the hall. She looked at me so sweetly, her eyes soft. I thought, oh no, this is it! My throat tightened up as I tried to swallow. As we entered another room, she whispered in my ear as she handed me to a man. She said to me, “Hey little man, you are one lucky guy, you’ve been rescued”. What a sigh of relief, I couldn’t stop thanking the man as I kissed every inch of his face! I am one lucky little guy, I make sure I tell God that every single day! Since that day, I had my leg fixed, by Dr. Dill and was given all the medical attention I needed. I have learned a lot about myself in foster care. I love to go for walks with my human friends and ride in the car. I like to be held A LOT! I like to wear sweaters, when it’s cold and I love to sleep under the covers all the time! Life is good, now all I need is a family to call my own.
