My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Murphy is a beautiful merle with a wonderful soft coat. He is seven years young and enjoys patrolling the yard for squirrels, chasing balls and squeaky toys, keeping an eye on the neighborhood, and loves longer walks. He is a medium energy dog, loving to be active, while also enjoying mid-afternoon naps. He finds nothing better than a good scratch. Murphy is quite the cuddler and this big boy will even try to sit in your lap!

Murphy was given to ASRM after his elderly owner passed away. He is a “victim of being loved too much”. In other words: spoiled rotten. His previous owner would go out to a restaurant and bring an entire meal back home for Murphy. Instead of being a standard 45-50 lbs, Murphy topped the scales at 110lbs. He was likely one of the biggest Aussies we have ever seen. Nevertheless, he was checked for thyroid and other conditions, and found to be surprisingly very healthy for being so obese.

While Murphy has a LOT of love to give, his vet-approved diet is shrinking his weight down to a normal Aussie size. Murphy was given to the rescue after his owner passed away. He had a rough day or two adjusting to his foster home, since he was so accustomed to getting his way and “throwing his weight around”, but is now loving life.

Murphy is completely house broken, doesn’t chew, and loves to be around people. Since he is such a good boy, he has not needed to be crated. He seems to enjoy most dogs and while he has not been seen with children, it is expected that he would be fine once adjusted. Murphy would do best in a home without cats due his strong desire to chase. Murphy is a wonderful dog looking for more people to love!

ASRM needs your assistance in helping Murphy get to his ideal weight. He is on a special vet-approved diet, and would benefit from special therapy and programs to help transform to a thinner and healthier Aussi!

Murphy is being fostered in St Louis, MO. If you would like to help him on his Biggest Loser journey, please fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION.
