Bernardo is a 13 pound Chihuahua/Beagle mix, also known as a “Cheagle” with the most beautiful unique green eyes that have aquamarine colored starbursts. He is mostly white, with some tan markings. Bernardo was skinny coming straight from the shelter so he should be more like 15 lbs. proper weight. He will gain those two pounds as he eats regular, healthy meals while in foster care. The shelter marked that Bernardo was age three (this was not vet confirmed, staff at shelter basically make their best guess) however, our vet confirmed that he is much younger – closer to one and a half, and no more than age two.
Bernardo has the most endearing face with pink features and white eyelashes. He is a very sweet, quiet dog, almost cat like. He even greets everyone by rubbing his body around the ankles just like a cat would do. Bernardo does not bark much; in fact, I have only heard him bark once. He is currently fostered with two cats and a Chiweenie and gets along with all. He mostly ignores the cats but plays with other dogs, chasing, wrestling or playing tug of war. His favorite time though is cuddling with his humans. He is a great balance of being playful and cuddle time.
Bernardo has not had any potty accidents and he is currently learning the doggy door. Potty reinforcement is always encouraged in any new environment. He is crate-trained and sleeps in a wire crate throughout the night but is trustworthy enough to sleep on a pet bed or on a human bed. Bernardo is such a sweet boy that we believe that he would get along with anyone, even children, though we have not tested this aspect. He loves walks and rides well in the car. Bernardo is a sweet, very cute, loving dog who just wants to find his forever family. He has a very easy going personality!
