Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Oscar was a stray when he entered a small Southern California shelter as a 5 month old pup. For 4 months he lived in the open-air shelter cage pictured in his "before" photograph, which was taken on a cold Thanksgiving Day 2013. The kind volunteer who took the photo felt sorry for him and agreed to take him into foster herself until Dusty Paws had space for him. Early December, Oscar made the long car trip to a new life. Dusty Paws volunteers met the shelter volunteer half way and ferried Oscar to temporary boarding where he learned to socialize with dogs of all sizes. He is now a sturdy 57 lbs, and is house-trained.
Oscar is now enjoying life in a Dusty Paws foster home, where he romps in a big yard with the two permanent canine residents. He gets along splendidly with other dogs and bonds quickly to people as well. His foster dad says he has a sweet calmness that makes him a pleasure to be around. Instead of running up and trying to lick your face, Oscar struts up quietly, puts his head on your lap and waits for you to pet him.
If you're looking for a calm, cooperative hiking buddy, Oscar is your man. He would love to got on walks with you at Lake Chabot, Coyote Hills, or wherever you like. Maybe the coast...he isn't afraid of water.
Oscar is still a little timid when meeting new people, but his curiosity and love of affection overwhelm any initial hesitation. He has a lovely smile when he gets to know you and people are naturally drawn to him.
Oscar has literally come a long way from a lonely beginning and we know the rest of his life will be a joy when he finds his forever home.
