My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cactus Pete is one of those dogs you cannot believe endured so much. For his first 7 years of life, he lived in a dirt yard and had only a dilapidated shack for shelter. He suffered years of neglect and abuse, yet his owner did not want to give him up. Tickled Pink Weimaraner Rescue worked for months on outreach to convince Pete's owner to surrender him. For six months prior to his surrender, Pete was repeatedly attacked by the owner's other dog, also an unaltered male. When Pete came to rescue, his external injuries were the least of his worries. Pete not only had lacerations covering his entire body, but was suffering from a complete front leg fracture and kidney damage. He was also in extreme emotional distress for weeks surrounding his intake. Luckily, a very experienced foster stepped up and has shown Pete a level of commitment we could have only imagined was possible. Pete's kidneys stabilized but had not yet improved one month into rescue. Unfortunately he bloated and torsed (GDV) after spending a day in the hospital for a cast change. Pete had surgery and survived, and has done so well through recovery. His cast was removed after day #60 and the bone is 100% healed. His kidneys have now shown slight improvement. He is not putting pressure on the leg and so he is starting physical therapy. Pete loves other dogs, children, and toys. He loves to play ball and will carry balls and toys around with him. His favorite places are the park and the couch at his foster home. He is fostered with a female Weimaraner and a male Aussie. Pete has come so far, and shows so much kindness, qualities which make him that much more deserving of a forever home.
